The hero now faces their “grand ordeal”; the defining moment of the journey in which they face their biggest test. This can come in the form of slaying a dragon, finally confronting a romantic interest, or reaching enlightenment. This track is heavily inspired by the progressive music that keeps music feel fresh and original, at the cost of being a little too high-brow at times. With influences from Frank Zappa to Ravi Shankar to Jacob Collier, this song exhibits a variety of musical flavors and aesthetics: compound metres, tonal serialism, the Purdie shuffle, chamber choir, and Musique concrète. It’s a freak-of-nature of a song but it’s diversity is what makes it unique. The title represents the Hindu god, Shiva, who dances eternally in a ring of fire surrounded by mythical musicians. The dance is the source of the cycle of creation, preservation and dissolution in mythology. Shiva is the destroyer in the Hindu pantheon, but what is destroyed is made new again through reincarnation. In other words, what dies never fades; it just recedes into memory.
