about

This song represents the “refusal of the call” the hero faces, instead turning to the familiarity of a day job. The hero feels the potential within themself, but has trouble trying to break free from that cycle. The song also addresses gender anxiety pertaining to the toxic masculinity trap that some men feel trying to fit into society. A man does not have to be the romanticized macho man in order to feel like themselves. One must find what works for them, and take the steps needed to live the life you want to live. The song also addresses the issue of recreational marijuana legalization. Some users can use the substance responsibly and maintain very active, enticing lifestyles, while also helping treat mental illnesses partially induced by the aforementioned gender issue. Musically the song is influenced by Parliament-Funkadelic, The Fearless Flyers, Kokoroko, Tower of Power, and The Motet.

lyrics

Got that nine to five on a weekday
Make you rushin’ out the door
No need to feel overwhelmed
You’ve been through this before
It’s the same shit, different day
On that grind until you drop
Movin’ to the rhythm, ridin’ on your flow
Got that groove that you can’t stop

(livin’ the dream, livin’ the dream)
Uggghhh, clean up on isle five
(livin’ the dream, livin’ the dream)
Price check for groceries please
(livin’ the dream, livin’ the dream)
Ma’am, please don’t eat that.
(livin’ the dream, livin’ the dream)
Workin’ hard or hardly workin?

(So you livin’ that dream yet?)
Oh my my, got my 15 in a minute
(You smoke that weed and you’ll lose your head)
Ha! Now tell me how I’m never trippin’
(Huh, your manager outta hear this)
Ok boomer, I’m only a temp
(Embrace the suck. It’ll make you a man)
Sure, like I’m one shift closer to livin’ the dream

Everyday brings a new vibration
Take a curveball & make it swing
Keep on livin’ in the light
Burn ‘em up like little wing
Don’t need no contemplation
When we’re rockin’ in the dance hall
Cause music is my meditation and
Rhythm is my soul

(livin’ the dream, livin’ the dream)
Oh god, I slept in again
(livin’ the dream, livin’ the dream)
I think I still got a little roach-o
(livin’ the dream, livin’ the dream)
Welp, better have one for the road
(livin’ the dream, livin’ the dream)
Ahh, I got scoobed again!

[Chorus]
